Our Story

The brand, named Ahima, represents the adaptive and creative ability of a traveller, much as the clouds change as they cross the sky. Incorporating clouds into the logo in the style of traditional Buddhist paintings from the Himalayas where the brand began.

My Name is Gemma, I founded, design and, for the time being, run all business here at Ahima Boutique, with a close network of friends and family for support! And our Artisan Makers of course - as the Hero’s.

Although born and raised in the Lake District I’ve spent the last 8 years living in India roaming through various different ventures. (This story has to have its own blog post).

As I travelled, I learnt to live to more frugally, my wardrobe began to consist of key pieces, using natural fibres for the change in environments and bold colours to still represent who I am. I wore each piece to the death, and desperately tried to replace the attributes they gave to me when gone. Whether it was the perfect pair of yoga pants or the ideal hot weather but modest travel top, cosy layers, pocketed, hooded or a touch of glitz. Something for every occasion.

Recognising this connection we build with clothes, I want to not only acknowledge where the journey starts - with loving hands, but where the garment will take you too, how it will grow with you, you become one and know you’ll feel a certain way wearing it that day.

Therefore we aim to bring you beautiful, statement, limited edition pieces that will be able to hold a timeless presence in your wardrobe. Bold patterns and colours that express who you are to the world, and easy shapes that expand and shrink as we all do.

All made in natural fibres and built within small workshops that continue the traditional crafts and trades of the family’s in rural areas of India. Whether it be handwoven cashmeres, or reworked vintage silk saris, rustic cotton velvets with block printed linings, each collection holds a story.

Now based in the quaint town of Borwick near Lancaster, U.K. You can find me at various events in the nearby (or further) area, or shop right here in our little online store, while we work closely with our artisans to bring you more.

Thanks Gem 🪷
